Persatuan Wanita Progresif Sandakan

It is with great pride, gratitude and humility that I welcome you to Malam Cahaya Harmoni, an evening that celebrates compassion, unity, cultural diversity and the spirit of giving.

Persatuan Wanita Progresif Sandakan (PROWINS) was established with the aspiration of empowering women to recognise their strengths, develop their potential and build the confidence to contribute meaningfully to society. Our mission is to encourage women to grow, lead and succeed while fostering a caring, inclusive and supportive community. We envision a society where every woman is valued, respected and given the opportunity to thrive, regardless of her background or circumstances.

A woman's strength lies not only in what she achieves, but also in the lives she touches and the differences she makes.

Women play many important roles in our society. They are mothers, daughters, wives, educators, professionals, leaders and pillars of their communities. Within the family, women nurture values, shape the character of their children and build a foundation of love and understanding. In their careers and various fields of endeavour, women contribute their knowledge, creativity, leadership and determination. Their roles in spiritual development, community service and the promotion of health and well-being are equally significant.

However, in fulfilling these many responsibilities, women must never forget themselves. We must continue to motivate ourselves, embrace lifelong learning and face challenges with courage and confidence. Equally important, we must care for our emotional well-being, protect our inner peace and recognise that taking care of ourselves is not selfish; it is necessary. A woman who values her own well-being is better equipped to care for others and pursue her aspirations.

The empowerment of women is not a journey that women must undertake alone. The encouragement and support of men—as fathers, brothers, husbands, friends and colleagues—are equally valuable. When men listen, respect, encourage and stand alongside women, they help create opportunities for women to flourish. A man who supports a woman's growth does not diminish his own strength; instead, he demonstrates the true meaning of respect, partnership and humanity. When women and men work hand in hand, families grow stronger, communities become more compassionate and society moves forward together.

As President of PROWINS, I believe that every woman has the ability to make a difference. We may begin with small steps, but with determination, mutual support and a shared vision, those steps can lead to meaningful and lasting change. Let us continue to inspire one another, celebrate each other's achievements and extend our hands to those who need encouragement and assistance.

On a personal note, I wish to express my deepest appreciation to my beloved family, whose unwavering love, patience, encouragement and support have been my greatest source of strength. They have stood by me through the many responsibilities and commitments I have undertaken, and their willingness to help in every possible way has contributed immensely to my efforts and achievements. Whatever success I have attained has never been mine alone; it has also been made possible by their sacrifices, understanding and faith in me. For this, I am sincerely and eternally grateful.

Finally, I extend my heartfelt thanks to our organising committee, members, sponsors, donors, partners and everyone who has contributed their time, energy and resources towards making Malam Cahaya Harmoni a meaningful occasion. Your generosity enables us to extend hope, kindness and support to those in need, including single mothers, orphans and senior citizens.

May PROWINS continue to grow as a platform that empowers women, strengthens families and brings communities together in the spirit of compassion and harmony.

Together, let us empower women, uplift lives and build a brighter future for all.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Siththira Thevi Iyavoo

The spirit of PROWINS

PPM-002-12-08062026

The logo of Persatuan Wanita Progresif Sandakan (PROWINS) is designed to represent the strength, progress, elegance and unity of women in society. Each element and colour carries a meaningful message that reflects the association’s vision, values and aspirations to empower women and inspire positive change.

1. The Lotus Flower

The lotus flower symbolises purity, inner strength, resilience and the ability of women to rise above life’s challenges. Although it grows in muddy waters, the lotus blooms with remarkable beauty. It represents women’s ability to overcome adversity, achieve success and inspire others through their courage and determination.

2. The Female Figure

The female figure represents self-confidence, leadership, grace and the progressive spirit of Sandakan’s women. It reflects the important role women play as pillars of the family, contributors to society and active participants in the development of the nation.

3. The Butterfly

The butterfly symbolises transformation, freedom, beauty and personal growth. It represents the positive transformation of women as they develop their potential, embrace new opportunities and become more confident, capable and influential in their respective fields.

4. The Colour Purple

Purple represents dignity, wisdom, authority and feminine elegance. It also reflects the inner strength, confidence and unity of the association’s members, symbolising their shared commitment to advancing the status and well-being of women.

5. The Light Green Surrounding the Lotus

Light green symbolises hope, growth, harmony and renewal. The green outline surrounding the lotus represents continuous progress, positive development and the association’s commitment to supporting women in becoming empowered, independent and forward-looking individuals.

6. The Light Blue Surrounding the Butterfly

Light blue represents calmness, peace, confidence and inspiration. It reflects the spirit of women who bring about positive change through compassion, wisdom and a balanced approach, fostering harmony and understanding within families and the wider community.

The Essence of the PROWINS Logo

Together, these elements and colours express the spirit of PROWINS: empowering women to grow with confidence, rise above challenges, embrace transformation and contribute meaningfully to society. The logo serves as a reminder that every woman possesses the strength and potential to create positive change, inspire others and help build a more inclusive, harmonious and progressive community.
